The EPSEM is a teaching institution of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) where there are given the studies of Mines Engineering, Technical Engineering of Mines, Technical Industrial Engineering specialities in Industrial Electronics, Mechanical and Industrial Chemical and Technical Engineering of Telecommunications. Founded in the year 1942 as a school of Mines, it continues being the only school with studies of mining engineering in the university district of Catalonia, of the Valencian Community and of Aragon. It is possible to deal an itinerary for the obtaining of the double qualifications in Chemical Engineering/Mines Engineering.
The university also teach the qualification of the second cycle of Engineering in Industrial Organization, with semipresencial modality. The qualification is a study of the Superior Technical School of Industrial and aeronautics's Engineerings in Terrassa that is given in the EPSEM with professorship and coordination of both schools.
The department of Mining Engineering and Natural Resources of the UPC, located in the EPSEM, gives the Program of Doctorate in Natural Resources and Environment.
All 900 students, who deal their studies in the center, give it a suitable dimension to establish a teachers' personalized attention and personnel of administration and services with the university students.
The contact of the center with companies of diverse industrial sectors allows that the students can realize practices and the Final Project of Career (PFC) by means of Agreements of Educational Cooperation.
It is necessary to highlight the rapid labour insertion of all the graduates of the UPC, which find work with an average of two months.
The EPSEM have international interchanges with the universities and foreign institutions of England, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, etc. where studies and the PFC can be realized.
In the Patronado of the School are represented companies of the environment, professional colleges, administrations and unions.
A singular fact in a university center is the reception of the facilities of the Museum of Geology "Valentí Masachs" where the minerals and its utilization are exposed in the daily life.
