Mechanics and graphical expression

Members : Iñaki Alcelay, José Juan de Felipe, Manel Peral, Joan Josep Rivera, Ricard Villar, Jordi Vives.

Research contents and social projection :

The investigation is structured in four thematic areas.

Department of Mechanical Engineering:

The group of investigation in Mechanics works in the modelization and the simulation by computer of mechanical systems fluid related to the human body. There are at the moment two open lines: one, the kinematic and dynamic study of the movements of the human body to simulate the possible most real movement; and the other one, the simulation of sanguineous flow for surgical applications. The applications of these lines of investigation go from the simulation of the job and design of new spaces of work in the field of the industry until the operative use of a software of support in hospitals.

Department of Graphical Expression:

Virtual creation/reconstruction and edition of multimedia material.

Department of Machines and Thermal Motors:

  • Mechanics of flows and hydrology. Studies of the hydric use in Catalonia. Technological improvements for the advantage of this resource: superficial rainwater storage and currents.

  • Road security and security in the driving. Studies of the socioeconomic impacts related to the transport and mobility.

  • Modelization of technological, social and economic systems by means of techniques of analysis of complex systems: dynamics of systems and complex networks.

Department of Resistance of Materials and Structures to Engineering:

Investigation in the simulation of biological flows. At the moment we are working in the simulation of the sanguineous flow in the field of cardiovascular problems. The objective is to design a tool that allows the surgeon to predict which of the possible operating options in an intervention it will present better hemodynamic conditions and, therefore, can give better permeability results.
