How to Arrive

The Conference will take place at the Escola Politècnica Superior d'Enginyeria de Manresa (EPSEM) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). This is located at the city of Manresa, 60 km north-west from Barcelona, at the very center of Catalonia (see here for a general map, where you can zoom in and out). There are several possibilities to arrive here, depending where (and how) are you coming from. Since we are mathematicians and all of us know what a graph is, here is one (or kind of); and here is an exercise: find your own path to Manresa. We'll check that you have been able to find a correct answer by seing you at the EPSEM on August 31st (hint: there are infinitely many possible solutions because the graph is connected and not a tree):

Description of the edges:

A: Barcelona airport to Sants station (train-RENFE)

There are frequent trains connecting the airport with the city (belonging to the company called RENFE). There is only one stop at the airport, and several stops in the city (the main one being Sants station). For more information go here. It is also possible to go from the airport to the city by taxi.

B: Sants station to Manresa RENFE station (train-RENFE)

You can pick a train from the company RENFE, line C-4 with direction to Manresa. They run roughly at intervals of half an hour (less often on weekends). In Barcelona you can pick the train at the stations of "Barcelona-Sants" and "Barcelona-Plaça Catalunya" (among some others less central). Look here for a timetable. In Manresa there is only one station located at the south part of the city (see the map).

C: Transportation inside Barcelona city (subway/bus)

For information about the public transportation inside Barcelona city, you can go here.

D: Barcelona Plaça Espanya to Manresa Alta station (train-FGC)

This is a different train company called "Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat" (FGC). At "Barcelona Plaça Espanya" you can pick a FGC train, line R5 with direction to Manresa. They run roughly at intervals of an hour. Look here for a timetable. In Manresa, there are three stops, the main one being "Manresa Alta" (also the closests to EPSEM); the other two are "Manresa Viladordis" and "Manresa Baixador". See the map for their location within Manresa.

(caution! FGC is also present at Barcelona-Plaça Catalunya, but this is a completely different line not going to Manresa).

E: Barcelona Ronda Universitat to Manresa estació d'autobusos (bus)

You can also go from Barcelona to Manresa by bus. The bus stop in Barcelona is at Ronda Universitat 11, very close to Plaça Catalunya. See the information in Sagalés. In Manresa there are two bus stops, "Valldaura" (most known as "Puerto Rico") and "Estació d'autobusos", which is right in front of "Manresa Alta" train station, see the map.

F: Girona airport to Manresa Alta station

You can go directly from Girona to Manresa by a bus called "Eix Bus". You can pick it at Girona city or directly at Girona airport. Look here for a timetable. In Manresa it leaves you at the "estació d'autobusos", see the map.

G: Girona airport to Barcelona

You can pick a bus from the company Sagalés to travel from the Girona airport to Barcelona, arriving at the "Estació del Nord". Look here for details.

H: Transportation inside Manresa

See the map for a general picture and the location of the hotels, train stations and the EPSEM. Manresa is a resonably small city so that you can walk to most places. As an example, from Hotel Pere III to the EPSEM a pleasant walk takes less than 30 minutes. However, public transportation is also available:

These are not edges in the graph above, but also important:

Coming from Madrid:

If you plan to come to Manresa directly from Madrid (for example, from the ICM06), most common options are: by car (about 600 km), by train arriving at Sants station, or by plane into the Barcelona airport.

Taxi:

Although it is possible to do the trip Barcelona (or Barcelona airport) to Manresa by taxi, we do not recommend it because it is 60 km long and it can be quite expensive .(80 euros, or more, depending on the traffic).

Driving directions:

See here for detailed road maps and indications.
